If you've come here, you've probably either clicked on the link in the ''Hinode/EIS Wiki'' sidebar and are wondering what this page is about; or you are looking for specific information.
This page is a sort of directory of various articles and discussions on planning observations with EIS. Some operational details are introduced in these pages by way of explanation. For example, if you are interested in finding out how to tailor your observations to be best suited for the way EIS works, check out our new page at [SbandObservingInfo].
Or if you'd like to find an existing programme which suits the kind of observations you'd like to run, then take a look at [SearchingForStudies]. There's much more information besides, all below!
!How to get your observations run
For examples of what EIS is running these days, and who to talk to about proposing observations if you have questions, go over to [PlanningObservations]. And to find out what you should submit with your observation request, check out the guidelines in [Newstudies].
!S-Band Era Observing - __new__
Since Hinode made the switch to the S-Band antenna, there are a number of considerations to bear in mind. These are described on our Wiki page at [SbandObservingInfo].
And for an idea of studies designed to optimised for this antenna, see some examples at [Study4LowDataVolume].
!Searching for and Decoding the contents of an EIS Study
To look up an EIS observation, or ''Study'', and find out how it's defined (using SolarSoft) you can use [EisXstudy]
!Hinode eclipse season
To find out what the annual [''Eclipse Season''|EclipseSeason] means for EIS, you can take a look at the original information posted at [EclipseEffects] last year, or the more up-to-date information in the ''Eclipse Season'' section of the new [S-Band Observing Info|SbandObservingInfo] page.
!Requesting XRT support
To request XRT support for your EIS observations, particularly if you do not intend to go through the HOP system, see the Wiki page at [XRTSupport].
!Some suggested studies
As a place to start if you have no idea what to use with EIS, Peter Young has started a discussion page at [RecommendedStudies].
!Searching for studies
There is already a large number of studies out there, already available to use. To help you find out if an existing programme would meet your requirements, Harry Warren and Ignacio Ugarte have written {{{eis_search_rasters}}} to help you find the right raster. !EIS Data Compression Factors
Jian Sun has done extensive work on the effective Data Compression (DC) factors associated with the various on-board compression algorithms on Hinode. See [CompressionFactorStudy] for more on this. And go to [NewNumberForEISDC] to see the results of the variation of compression factor with target.
