If EIS_CAT can not open a local copy of the science data catalog, it will try to access the official database over the internet. It will do this by try to connect to the nearest host site which contains a copy of the science data catalog.

EIS_CAT informs the user about whether it is using a local copy or a remote copy of the science data catalog. It does this by displaying the location of the database next to the label ‘Using Database On:’. If EIS_CAT is accessing the science data catalog using a remote host, the name of the host is displayed here. If, on the other hand, EIS_CAT is using a local copy of the database, then the string ‘LOCAL’ is displayed.
